Another four for the Tanners

Another four for the Tanners

Leatherhead are our big winners, Westfield climb to eighth, Ascot win away to go ninth, and the Sparks take three late points

Leatherhead became the first side to defeat Farnham Town in the league this season- and indeed ended an unbeaten record that ran from the 22-23 campaign- with a four-one win at the weekend, and the Tanners were back at Fetcham Grove to welcome former boss Luke Tuffs and his Tangerines. Leatherhead went ahead after nine minutes, Kelvin Manuel Massango with the opener- his first of the season- and five minutes before half time the hosts had another, Tom Kavanagh keeping his cool from the spot. The next goal looked crucial, and it again went to the Tanners, Anuar Ceesay making it three-nil on the hour, and they completed what had become a rout when Sebastian Karczewski’s fifth of the season made it four-nil. Leatherhead climb to eleventh, whilst the twentieth placed Tangerines have lost five of their last six.

Westfield had gone four without a win in the League, a run which had dropped them down to ninth, but hoped to get back to winning ways against Southall- as two of last years Play Off Semi-Finalists met at Woking Park. The All had lost only one of their previous six, their achilles heel being a collection of draws, five of them- but they went behind in this one on the hour, Mayowa Adaje with the opener for the hosts. That turned out to be that, Field up to eighth.

Horndean, with copious amounts of sudocream applied, got back to winning ways in style on Saturday as they defeated Rayners Lane four-two- but they fell quickly behind as they hosted Ascot United. It took the Yellas only five minutes to go ahead, Connor Holland with the opener, but four minutes before half time the Deans drew level, Zack Willett with his fourth goal of the season. After getting an early goal in the first half United got an even earlier one in the second half, Anas Igozouln’s eighth of the season, and they had a third soon afterwards, Nathan Jones putting some daylight between the visitors and their hosts. Five minutes from time Willett got a goal back for the Deans, setting up a grandstand finish, but there was to be no happy ending for the home faithful, Ascot holding out for three points and moving ninth- a first away win since August Bank Holiday Monday.

South Park Reigate were hoping for only a second win of the season as they welcomed Moneyfields- but knew that, if they won, they would climb out of the bottom four, to be replaced by their visitors. The Sparks were actually unbeaten at home in open play, their only defeat at Whitehall Lane coming in a penalty shootout in the FA Trophy, and they went ahead on twenty six minutes, Jamal Sharpe opening the scoring. The Moneys only win on the road so far this season had come in the Hampshire Cup in mid August, but they have had like they were getting to grips with Isthmian life of late, and they levelled in first half added time, Scott Hills scoring from the spot. It looked like that was that, as we entered added time at the end of the match with no further goals, but Finlay Johnson thought otherwise, scoring his fourth of the season to give his side victory. The two sides, of course, swapped places- the Moneys into the bottom four.
