Can the Green Lions savage Farnham?

Can the Green Lions savage Farnham?

The other promotion hopefuls will certainly hope so! We also have Horndean, Leatherhead, Ascot and Uxbridge in FA Trophy action- here's our preview

Isuzu FA Trophy

Folkestone Invicta and Ascot United meet in a Premier v South Central tie, both sides hoping to get back to winning ways. Invicta have only one win from five in all competitions, and lost at Chichester City last weekend; whilst the Yellas have seen a seven match winning streak followed by two defeats.

Leatherhead, who picked up our South Central Shepherd Neame Performance of the Month Award for their win over Dulwich Hamlet in the Cup last month, will be hoping to slay another giant as Hastings United come to call. The Tanners have had a strange season so far, surprisingly struggling in the League whilst winning a series of knockout ties, whilst their visitors got back to winning ways in the League in midweek but are without a win on the road since August 13th.

Horndean make another long trip to Devon, where they take on Tavistock. The hosts are in mid table in Pitching In Southern Division One South, and lost at home to Exmouth Town last weekend- the side who, coincidentally, the Deans defeated in the last round. Our South Central side have followed that win with two three-two defeats, mind you, so will very much want to get back to the form they showed the last time they were in the county that knows how to eat scones correctly.

Uxbridge are in good form. Six unbeaten and having won five home matches in a row, they look to add another scalp to that list as they welcome Thame United of Pitching In Southern Division One Central. United have already removed two Isthmian sides from this competition, defeating Westfield in the last round and Steyning Town prior to that, both on the road, so the Red Army shouldn’t get cocky despite their sides magnificent performances at Honeycroft.

Pitching In Isthmian South Central

Seven matches, seven wins, twenty seven goals scored, three conceded- much of the South Central Division will be undoubtedly be cheering for Guernsey as they welcome our leaders, Farnham Town, and hoping that there is a Manager of the Month/Golden Gloves Award curse coming the way of the visitors! With Town already seven points clear of third place and two clear of Harrow Borough with a game in hand, nobody- perhaps apart from the good folks of Farnham- would like to see them disappear over the horizon. The Green Lions are playing their third home match of the campaign, and they lost the first two three-nil, but they will be boosted by their victory at Horndean last weekend.

Second place Harrow Borough head to Burnham to take on Southall, a repeat of a Velocity Cup match that went all the way to penalties less than a fortnight ago and provided lots of entertainment. Borough know that victory and a Farnham slip up could see them go top, whilst The All are looking for only a second win of the season, having drawn four of their seven matches so far.

Westfield may or may not still be in third place as they travel to Moneyfields- two matches on Friday evening might impact on that- but they will want to hold onto that spot and might need to win to do so. Only Farnham have managed to defeat them in the league so far. The Moneys picked up their first League win of the campaign when defeating Leatherhead in midweek, but are four unbeaten and seem to be finding their South Central feet.

Kingstonian welcome Badshot Lea to Raynes Park. Raynes Park had been a happy hunting ground for the Baggies- at least until this season when Vale beat them five-one- but their entire campaign so far hasn’t been all that happy, their only wins coming in the first two Preliminary rounds of the FA Cup. They did look far more solid in a draw at Rayners Lane last weekend, however, which at least gives them something to build on. The K’s have only one defeat from six in all competitions, and scored twelve goals in their last two matches in League and County Cup. Eddie Simon already has eleven for the season.

Hartley Wintney will hope to take a leap into the top five as they host Met Police. The Row ended a three match winless run by hitting Ascot United for five last weekend, whilst met have gone three without a win in the League but made Farnham work hard for victory last weekend.

Hanworth Villa also have top five aspirations as they welcome South Park Reigate. This will be Villa’s ninth home match of the season, and only Margate- in the FA Trophy- have departed with victory, whilst the Sparks are still looking for a first league win of the season, despite only losing once, having drawn four of their five fixtures so far.
