Farnham close the gap

Farnham close the gap

Farnham Town retain their one hundred percent record- and we’ve wins for Hartley and Uxbridge, too. In the Velocity Cup, Ascot, Hayes and Leatherhead deliver South Central wins

Four league games, four league wins, and an average of four goals a game for Farnham Town- although they scored only two against Westfield last night, closing to within a point of the Woking side who hold onto second place.

The opening goal arrived just after the half hour, with Adam Liddle scoring for the third time this season. Westfield fought hard, but twenty minutes from tine they were undone again, Harry Cooksley securing three points with the second goal for the hosts. Three hundred and sixty four watched on, Town are up to third.

Horndean are a point behind Farnham, after picking up a point with ten men against Kingstonian. The K’s went ahead midway through the first half, Bradley Wilson’s fifth goal of the season, and it got worse for the Deans just before the hour as they saw Ethan Robb sent off. Three minutes from time, however, the hosts were awarded a penalty- and Tommy Scutt made no mistake. Image from Simon Roe.

Hartley Wintney are eighth, and they picked up three points thanks to substitute Adam New. He emerged from the bench early in the second half, replacing George Winser, and on sixty two minutes he found the back of the Rayners Lane net for the only goal of the game.

Uxbridge are twelfth- and four unbeaten in all competitions, having delivered their third successive home win, this one over Hanworth Villa. They went ahead on the quarter hour mark, George Moore opening the scoring, and Villa’s chances of a recovery were dealt a body blow when Ada Okorogheye took his tally for the season to six with a goal eight minutes from time. Six minutes into added time the Villains Finlay Macnab scored for the sixth match in succession- his seventh goal of that spell- but it was too late for the visitors to build on that. Villa are seventh.

Velocity Cup

Ascot United picked up their sixth win in a row in all competitions, their fourth in a row at home, coming from behind to defeat Sutton Common Rovers two-one. Rovers got the opener midway through the first half, Danyaal Iqbal the scorer, but the visitors were ahead for only ten minutes before Anas Igolouln scored his sixth of the season- and for the fourth match in a row. Aiden Payne James emerged from the Yellas bench on fifty seven minutes, and he turned out to be an inspired addition to the fray, as he got the winner only four minutes later.

Hayes and Yeading United came from behind- twice- to win an eight goal thriller against Moneyfields. It looked positive for the hosts when Mwetsi Matangi gave them the lead after two minutes, but the Moneys equalised six minutes later through Lawrence Cooper and were ahead ten minutes after that, Scott Hills scoring from the spot. It was all-square at half time, Rocky Williams levelling for the hosts, but the Portsmouth side were ahead again just before the hour, Callum Laycock making it three-two. With twenty three minutes to go Kaylen Hinds scored the latest United equaliser, and after that they took control, Cole Brown with a fourth and, right at the end, George Sippetts ensuring that the game was finally won. Five-three the final score, the Moneys still looking for a first victory of the campaign.

Leatherhead saw off the challenge of South Park Reigate at Fetcham Grove. The match had only one goal, and it arrived in first half added time. Andre Date has been the Tanners chief attacking threat so far this season, and he scored his fifth goal in ten matches in first half added time. A late red card for the hosts Ollie Cook made no obvious difference to the outcome.
