Villa bounce back- whilst Uxbridge and Hayes each take a point
Hanworth Villa get five, Uxbridge and United deliver an entertaining draw, and Leatherhead finally get the better of Westfield in the Cup
Hanworth Villa and Harrow Borough met in West London, both sides hoping to bounce back after defeat at the weekend. The Villains defeat in Guernsey was a second defeat in a row following a fine run of victories, but they put that behind them in an eight goal thriller, coming from two goals down to do so.
Borough went ahead after just six minutes, Jethro Odumosu the scorer, and on twenty four minutes Deago Dunbar-Bonnie put them two up. Finally the Villains awoke, Rayan Djouadj quickly getting a goal back, and five minutes before half time the same player drew them level. Within a minute level had changed to ahead, as Bruno Robertson-Tingle put the hosts ahead.
Twenty minutes from time a one goal advantage turned to two, Sam Merson’s seventh of the season giving the Villains a little breathing space, but they were soon given reason to worry once more as Dunbar-Bonnie quickly pulled it back to four-three. Into added time, and Borough went down to ten men, James Gurteen dismissed- and with eight added minutes played the hosts finally made sure of the points, Alex Body making it five-three. Villa are up to seventh, two points behind their fourth place visitors.
Uxbridge have been in fine form, and had only one defeat from ten in the league- that coming at the hands of the leaders- as they welcomed Hayes and Yeading United to Honeycroft. United were looking for a fourth win in a row, and they were unbeaten on the road, so we suspected that this one would be close, and indeed it was, but Uxbridge will feel that they should have had three points wrapped up long before the end, and will be disappointed with one.
The hosts went ahead six minutes before half time, George Moore the scorer, and four minutes into the second half the number ten made it two, taking his tally for the season to nine, five of which have arrived in the last three matches. On own goal just before the hour gave the visitors hope, but it looked like it would be hope that remained unfulfilled, only for substitute George Sippetts to get an equaliser EIGHT minutes into added time. United move into the top five, Uxbridge are only a point further back.
In the Velocity Cup, Leatherhead and Westfield met for the second time this season, the Woking side winning the first league encounter of the campaign between the sides on August Bank Holiday Monday. Neither side had been particularly consistent of late, and Leatherhead didn’t have a good record against Westfield- in six previous meetings they had failed to record a win, and had lost on the last three occasions they’ve met. If that made the visitors the favourites, it didn’t quite work out that way, as the Tanners finally dispensed with their Westfield hoodoo- if only just. Tommy Kavanagh put Leatherhead ahead during first half added time, keeping his nerve from the spot, and a red card for the visitors skipper Caleb Wright looked to have secured victory for the hosts with eleven minutes to go, but the ten men levelled two minutes from time, Mayowa Adaje taking his tally to five in six matches. With penalties seemingly a certainty the Tanners charged back up the other end, and Marco Haigh found a winner, earning them a trip to Carshalton Athletic in the next round.
