Wins for Lane and Gate as we play postponement bingo
Rayners Lane win in the South Central, Margate in the Velocity Cup, whilst everything else gets washed away
It was time to get out our postponement bingo cards as most of our Sussex and Kentish football got washed away last night, with only matches played on 3G pitches surviving the downpour.
In Pitching In Isthmian South Central, Rayners Lane climbed to twelfth as Harrow Borough’s recent poor run continued. Lane skipper Frank Keita has been in fine form this season, and added his sixteenth goal of the season to put his side ahead on seventeen minutes. Veteran striker Elliott Buchanan made it two-nil just four minutes later, and although Dernell Wynter’s fifth goal of the season got the visitors back into the match nine minutes before half time, a red card for Bailey Lamb midway through the second half increased the gradient on their uphill struggle. Five minutes from time Anthony Cook added a third for the hosts, who have now won four of their last five.
Borough have now lost five in a row, form which has seen them slip from second to eighth.
We were off to Ashford United in the Velocity Cup, and Margate earned a tie against Sheppey United in the next round by walloping their hosts. The Nuts and Bolts put out a rather youthful side, and they were overrun by a Gate side who, despite a number of changes, were much stronger- especially Louie Atkins, who managed to score a rather incredible five goals.
Brandon Davey put Gate ahead after six minutes, and then Atkins took control, scoring on forty, fifty eight, sixty one, seventy three and eighty one minutes to give the travelling faithful a great deal to sing about! Atkins was also celebrating his birthday, and Ashford had little choice but to give him a match ball as a gift! We hope you had a good day, Louie- but in retrospect it’s doubtful that it could have got much better, unless you also bought a winning lottery ticket?
