A North- and Cup- Saturday

We've Pitching In Isthmian North sides in League and Cup action. Here's our preview.

What a start to the season Basildon United have had. Five matches in all competitions, five victories, three clean sheets, top of the table- the Bees have never had it so good. They welcome Biggleswade of Pitching In Southern League Division One Central, their visitors four unbeaten and having won their last three, albeit one of them on penalties.

Brightlingsea Regent welcome Haringey Borough, only a week after the sides met in the League at Coles Park. Regent had a previously poor record against Borough but tore that up by defeating the North Londoners two-nil, and have now won four of their five matches this season. Borough, meanwhile, have lost each of their three league matches so far, and will hope for a positive result to kick start their campaign.

Brentwood Town saw their magnificent start to the season unravel on Monday as they were hammered at Concord Rangers, and will be looking to quickly get back to winning ways as they travel to Enfield (Hertford Town). The E’s transferred to Pitching In Southern Division One Central in the summer and are looking much stronger than the side we watched last season, with only one defeat so far. Town did the double over the E’s last season.

Felixstowe and Walton United have scored thirteen goals in their first three home matches this season, so will be confident as Leverstock Green of Southern Division One Central come to call- but Green, of course, knocked out another North Division side, Heybridge Swifts, in the last round.

We’ve an all-North tie as Gorleston and Walthamstow meet at the seaside. The Greens have been magnificent so far, five wins from five in all competitions- and that included victory over Stow on opening day courtesy of two Joseph Duffy spot kicks that brought them a two-one victory. Walthamstow have lost each of their three league matches so far, but they did take four points from the Greens last season.

Waltham Abbey travel to Suffolk to take on Leiston. The hosts picked up their first win of the Pitching In Southern Premier Central season on Monday, whilst the Abbotts sem to have found their feet, winning their last three in League and Cup.

Newmarket Town welcome Ipswich Wanderers in an all-North battle. The Jockeys don’t have a League victory yet but have two three-one wins in the cup, whilst Wanderers have played six matches so far and lost only one of them, in Brightlingsea on Monday.

Tilbury are back at Chadfields, with Brantham Athletic the visitors. The Dockers are three unbeaten, and their Thurlow Nunn Premier opponents have won their last three and will hope to be giant killers.

Witham Town will be delighted by their start to the campaign. Town are unbeaten in all competitions, winning their first four matches before a draw against Heybridge Swifts on Monday, and they’ll be favourites as they host Sherringham of Thurlow Nunn Premier, their visitors having won three and lost three of their competitive fixtures so far.

North

Bury Town have the chance to go back to the top of the table as they welcome Sporting Bengal United, but they’ll need three points to do it. The Blues will be delighted to finally escape the clutches of Felixstowe and Walton United having played them in three of their last four fixtures, whilst Sporting Bengal also have the chance to go to the top with victory- but they’d need rather a substantial victory to overhaul Basildon United at the summit.

Maldon & Tiptree and Cambridge City are currently seperated only by goal difference, but a positive result for either side as they meet at the home of jam would send them into the top five. The Jammers only victory so far this season in any competition came at Wroxham on op[ening day, whilst City defeated Mildenhall Town on Monday to end a run of three matches without a victory.
