A North and Velocity Wednesday
We’ve Greens v Jammers in the North, and Oaks v Millers in the Cup. Here’s our preview.
All North roads lead to the seaside this evening, as in Pitching In Isthmian North Gorleston welcome Maldon & Tiptree to Great Yarmouth.
Neither side are in the best of form. Gorleston have lost their last five league matches and scored only one goal in doing so, a run which has seen them drop to seventeenth, only a point above the drop zone, and looks very much like an FA Cup hangover after they did so well in that competition. Their visitors could hardly say that their recent endeavours have been much better, as they have lost four of their last five, a run which has left them only one point and one place above their hosts having played a game more. The last three meetings between the sides have resulted in a home win, so perhaps the odds are with the Greens, who won four-two when they last met in February.
In the Velocity Cup Third Round, Sevenoaks Town welcome Cray Valley PM. Oaks are having an up and down sort of season but look to be on the up at the moment, three matches unbeaten against high performing opposition including Sittingbourne and Herne Bay. They don’t have the best recent record against tonight’s opponents, however, Cray Valley PM emerging victorious the last three times they’ve met- and, of course, these days the Millers are Premier Division promotion chasers, sitting in fifth place after a fine start to their first top flight campaign. Cray Valley are four unbeaten, three of those on the road, and have Freddie Parker hoping to score in his fifth successive match- and add to the eleven he has for the season.
