Dockers, Borough, Jockeys and Bees win in the Cups

Tilbury, Newmarket and Haringey progress in Cup Replays, whilst Basildon win a nine goal Velocity thriller

Emirates FA Cup

Tilbury needed the latest of late goals to earn a replay against Thurlow Nunn side Brantham Athletic last weekend, but they got the job done last night and earned a Second Qualifying Round tie against Chelmsford City.

The Dockers took the lead only fifteen minutes from time, Lewis Clark with the opener, and thirteen minutes later looked to have made the match secure when Alex Akrofi added a second- but Athletic  got a goal nine minutes into added time to half the arrears. On this occasion there wasn’t time for an even later goal, and Tilbury held on.

Haringey Borough finally overcame Brightlingsea Regent at the third time of asking. After league defeat and Cup draw Borough hoped it would be third time lucky, and so it proved, earning them a home tie with Witham Town. Derek Asamoah got the opener ten minutes into the second half, and Borough added a second with only fourteen minutes left, Fred Agyemang doubling their advantage. Walker Shabazz-Edwards got a goal back for Regent to set up a tense finale, but the hosts held on.

Ipswich Wanderers welcomed Newmarket Town, the Jockeys needing a late equaliser to earn them a replay in their first meeting. The replay was also rasther short on goals, indeed it had only one, and it came to the visitors just before the hour, Prince Mutswunguma (pictured) sending them through to face Lowestoft Town at the seaside in the next round. A late red card for Wanderers Matt Paine ended a disappointing night for the hosts.

Velocity Cup

Our Velocity Cup competition got underway last night, and it wasn’t short of goals.

If you happened to travel to Canvey Island to watch Concord Rangers take on Basildon United, then you certainly got your moneys worth, as the Bees overcame the Beachboys by five goals to four. Rangers took the lead on two minutes, Amine Sasi with the opener, but it took only two more minutes for Kye Jude to level for United. On twenty eight minutes the visitors were ahead, Ruben Bartlett-Antwi scoring from the spot, but we were level at the break, Anisius Lewes scoring for the hosts.

Four minutes into the second half Ramiah Mills made it three-two Basildon, only for Jamal Allen to level just after the hour, but Mills quickly made it four-three to the visitors. and with twenty minutes to go George Scales made it five-three. The hosts fought back, Christian Adu Gyamfi giving them hope, but the Bees held on for a five-four victory.
