Seasiders go third with four

Jammers no match for Felixstowe and Walton United in our Monday Night Football

Historically, contests between Maldon and Tiptree and Felixstowe and Walton United haven’t ended well for the Seasiders. Prior to last night’s meeting at Park Drive the sides had met fourteen times in League and Cups since United climbed to our level, with the Jammers winning eight of them- and indeed, even last season when United were sweeping (almost) all before them, Maldon came away with four points from six.

History, eh? A win for Maldon last night would have taken them above their opponents into fifth, but from the off there seemed little chance of that.

Felixstowe went ahead on six minutes, Charlie Warren’s twelfth of the season (in ten matches) coming as he pounced on a defensive scamble to fire the ball home- and he was also involved in the second, ten minutes later, but he can’t claim that one as his corner was turned home by a defender! The Jammers got a goal back three minutes later, Teddy Collis keeping his cool from the spot, his first of the campaign, but a fine strike from Noel Aitkens (pictured, front) put the visitors three-one up just after half time. The fourth and final goal for the visitors arrived three minutes from time, and of course it was Warren again, curling home his thirteenth of the season- which was undoubtedly unlucky for the hosts, who had been pressing.

Felixstowe are up to third, a point behind our top two of Basildon United and Bury Town and with the best goal difference in the Division. Maldon slip to eleventh.
