Supporters Predictions 24-25: Waltham Abbey

A welcome back to the Abbots, courtesy of Dave Hodges

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-22 will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Next up, we're taking holy orders from Dave!

  1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

The highlight was equalising in the last 5 seconds of the Southern League Central Play Off Semi-Final against AFC Dunstable to reach the final. Bedford were worthy winners in the final but that what could have been feeling is awful.

2. And what was the worst moment?

Probable when we lost to Aylesbury away, we were in a good position but we realised our title hopes were fading fast.

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

Ben Baker was a match winner, but the ‘Rhino’-Jason Hallett-  lifted the whole club every game.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 24-25 campaign?

We have a few new signings so its hard to say, Sam Robbins coming back after 6 seasons is a great boost.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

Like all clubs, we need to get off to a good start.  I’m thinking top six, to be honest- at least if we learn from last season.

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

I like to long trips tbh, proper football. I am looking forward to seeing my friends at Bury Town, but I guess it’s always the places I haven’t been to before and there are not many of those now.

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

Are Canvey still in the Isthmian?  I love that terrace behind the goal!

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

AFC Dunstable have burgers to die for, and in the Essex Senior League, Buckhurst Hill is worth a visit for the burgers alone!

9. Who do you think will finish in the top five?

Concord Rangers, Cambridge City, Haringey Borough, Waltham Abbey, Bury Town

Thank you- now, who’s next? If you’d like to represent your club please send an email to Ian at [email protected] and we’ll send you the questions.
